“The Fundamentals of Health Research workshop” Prepare for your journey towards Publication
“The Fundamentals of Health Research workshop”
Prepare for your journey towards Publication
Conducting research is a difficult but important component in a healthcare professional’s career. Beyond research, attaining publications helps healthcare professionals establish themselves as thought leaders and innovators. Most importantly, research is critical for the betterment of science, improvements in patient outcomes and in the overall benefit of our society. Hence, clinicians, nurses and other allied health fields, although primarily focused on clinical care, are actively encouraged to invest time and effort in research.
However, many medical education programs around the world do not include a thorough and dedicated course on research. A large part of learning research skills is considered “on the job”. Our goal is to prepare budding researchers for the journey ahead of them. By establishing the need to conduct research in healthcare we help researchers understand that it is more than just an academic exercise. Once the need for research is established it is important for early researchers to understand the fundamental concepts, like, types of research, types of research output and the overall research as well as publication process.
“The Fundamentals of Health Research workshop: Prepare for your journey towards Publication” was conducted by Natsha Gulati- Team Manager-Customer Success for JSS Medical College on 1st Dec 2023. The session was attended by approximately 20 researchers and recording was shared for later watch. It was conducted as part of the Elsevier Health Research Development program.
The workshop also aimed to sensitize young researchers to some of the challenges they are likely to face in the research and publication journey. Some approaches and resolutions that the researchers can adopt to mitigate the impact of the most frequent challenges were also discussed. We conclude with a positive, confident note to let researchers know that they are not alone, and they will receive plenty of support in this process.

Saraswathi Pooja Celebrations
Saraswathi Pooja Celebrations
Saraswathi Pooja, dedicated to Saraswathi, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, and art, was celebrated with enthusiasm at JSS Medical College Library. This annual event is significant for students and staff, symbolizing reverence for education and wisdom. The pooja takes place every year during Navaratri festival bringing together the academic community in a blend of spirituality and cultural festivity.
The library was adorned with vibrant flowers, traditional rangoli and festoons. A beautifully decorated altar was set up for the pooja.
Students, faculty members, and administrative staff were invited to participate in the pooja.
The pooja celebrations began with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries and senior faculty members. While delivering the introductory speech, the Principal, highlighted the importance of Saraswathi Pooja in academic and cultural life of the institution.
As per tradition, the idol of Goddess Saraswathi was decorated with colorful flowers and ornaments. As a symbolic practice the books were placed in front of the Goddess indicating the pursuit of knowledge and creativity. Traditional hymns and prayers were recited, invoking the blessings of Goddess Saraswathi. The rituals included offerings of flowers, fruits, and sweets to the deity, along with the chanting of mantras.
On this auspicious occasion the prasadam, comprising traditional dishes, was served, fostering a sense of community and togetherness.
